Chiggers :- Causes , Symptoms And Treatment Of Chiggers

A chigger or red bug is an immature stage of the harvest mite.  Like all mites, the harvest mite life cycle includes larva, nymph, and adult.  In the last two stages, this mite feeds on plant materials.  The stage that gets the attention of humans is the larval stage. 

Alternate Names : Harvest mite, Red mite

Causes of Chiggers

They are usually restricted to certain habitats such as berry patches, tall grass and weeds, and woodland edges. The larvae attack humans around the waist, the ankles, or in warm skin folds.

People get chiggers simply by the mites jumping onto the skin.

Symptoms of Chiggers

There are some Symptoms of Chiggers

  • Severe itching
  • Red pimple-like bumps
  • itching
  • Skin rash or lesion with visible larva

Treatment of Chiggers

  • Avoid walking through low brush or woody areas.
  • Make sure all of your skin is covered with clothing.
