How to Apply Lipstick and Lip Liner
- Apply lipstick from the tube or by using a firm, small lipstick brush. Coat the lips evenly. Pay special attention to staying within the lips' edges.
- Stretch your lips and starting at the center of top or bottom, glide color to corners. Blot, reapply and blot again for longer-lasting color.
- Blot to remove any excess color and to even out the texture.
- Remember to touch lips up after a meal, as lipstick easily transfers onto coffee cups, water bottles and soda cans.
- Apply all other makeup before putting on lipstick and lip liner.
- Put on lipstick on the upper lip, followed by lower lip. Use lighter tinge first and then darker for glow.
- Use of vaseline or cream gives lustre to lips after applying lipstick.
- Starting at the center of your upper lip, draw a line to each outer corner, following the edge of your natural lip line.
- Fill in color all over lips if you want extra holding power for your lipstick.
Best tips
- Never use a tester on your lips - it's unhygienic. Test lipstick on your fingertips instead of the back of your hand - the colour and texture are closer to that of your lips.
- If you want your lipstick to last, use pencil first as a base. Outline and colour in your lips with pencil (nude, if your lipstick shade is light) and slick your lipstick on top.
- To avoid lipstick on your teeth, after application, run your index finger through the middle of your lips and pull it back out. The excess will come off on your finger, not your teeth.
- In an emergency make-up situation, your lipstick can double as blusher. (But never use blusher on your lips.)
- Lips that are too full can be minimized by using brown or blue reds.
- If your lips are too thin, bright reds will make them look more prominent.
