Eyeliner - How to Apply Eyeliner

Eye liners are the most extensively used form of eye make up. Eye liner is used to make the eyes more prominent and create an illusion of thicker lashes. Eye lining is done with a black or brown eye liner on the top lid of each eye and sometimes under the lower lashes. The line should be smooth instead of a harsh line.

How to Apply Eyeliner

Eye liner using a few simple techniques can dramatically affect the look and shape of your eyes. Whether you choose a soft line or a dramatic stroke, eyeliner draws attention.

  1. Choose an eyeliner appropriate for your eye color. Brown, navy and charcoal accent light eyes well, while brown and plum shades flatter brown eyes. Make sure your liner complements the color of your shadow.
  2. Pencils used for lining eyes should be soft and smudgy, so they do not drag the skin around the eye during application.
  3. Prepare a cake liner or a dark eye shadow by applying a small amount of water to your brush. Or, if you're using a pencil eyeliner, ensure that you've sharpened the pencil adequately.
  4. If you used a brush or a pencil, soften the look by gently smudging the line with your brush, a cotton swab or your finger.
  5. Move the wet brush gently through your cake liner or dark shadow. Hold the brush or pencil as you would hold a pen.

How to Apply Eyeliner for diffrent shapes

  1. MORE ROUND: Use eyeliner to outline the contour of your eyes at the base of the eyelashes and continue toward the outer corner, thicken and "wing" the line upward.
  2. LARGER : Trace a fine line of eye liner around the contour of your eye and also draw a fine line at the base of the upper and lower lashes for more definition.
  3. Small Eyes : Pluck the eyebrows fine to give maximum eye area. Use a little shadow under the lower lashes as well as on the top of the lid.Blend the shadow on the upper lid from the centre outwards, curving it upwards towards the brow in the shape of a wing. Line both the lids, extending the meeting line fairly out, to increase the length of the eyes.
  4. Deep-Set Eyes : Use a dark eyeshadow under the eyebrow, but not on the lid, where if you want to, you can use a lighter eyeshadow.Line only the lower lid and extend the line fairly out and up.
  5. More Ovalall : Start a fine line at the base of your eyelid, thicken it in the middle, and draw it toward the outer corner of your eyes.
  6. Close Together :- Shape the eyebrows so that they don't have the close-together appearance.Use the eyeshadow on the upper outer half of the lid extending above the eye and under the brow.To offset the closeness of the eyes, start drawing the eye line on the upper lid away from the inner corner. Draw it up and out.Similarly, the lower line should not begin from the inner corner.
  7. Drooping Eyes : Line outer third of eye very close to lashes, carefully sweeping the liner up at the corner of the eye.
  8. Oriental Eyes :- These eyes appear as though they have little or no eyelids - at least not when the eyes are open. The brow bone also tends to be flat, giving this area extra prominence

Avoid the Mistakes when appling Eyeliner

  1. Do not line the lower lashes with liquid eyeliner.Use a pencil liner, instead.
  2. Do not waste your time lining the lower inner rim of the eye.
  3. Never extend eyeliner past the outer corner of the eye.
  4. Do not line the inside rim of the lids, between the lash and the eye itself; it is messy and can be unhealthy for the cornea.
  5. Do not apply thick eyeliner to small or close-set eyes.
  6. Do not use eyeshadow as eyeliner unless you use the proper brush (one with a small, precise, fine-tipped point).
  7. Do not use greasy or slick pencils to line the lower lashes; they smear and smudge.
  8. Do not line the eye with a circle of dark or bright color. Both are too obvious and create an eyeglass-style circle around the eye.
